It’s the winter of 1943 in Moybeg, a time when, a grown-up Francis Coyne reminisces, ‘Europe was aflame and, had I but known it, different fires were close to consuming my own settled life.’

The arrival of Rose’s glamorous younger sister Vera (played by Grantchester’s Fiona Button) for her annual visit causes great excitement in the Coyne household, although Michael sees her as a ‘loose cannon’ and has to police her presence in the family pub, where she proves a hit with the locals. But while he’s busy worrying about his sister-in-law bringing disgrace upon the family name, should he be keeping a closer eye on Rose?
