Widowed journalist Richard Gere has no recollection of why he’s arrived in the small West Virginia town of Point Pleasant.

However, angry local Will Patton is convinced he’s met him before and cop Laura Linney is also very confused. So, is some kind of supernatural force drawing Gere to an impending catastrophe, or is it all in his head?

This highly intriguing thriller cleverly hides what’s really happening until very late in the day. The edgy direction makes otherwise everyday objects seem eerie and ominous – never has a simple phone call seemed so scary – resulting in a nerve-jangling and completely compulsive thriller.

Gere gives an impressively intense performance, while Linney and Patton also make their mark along with Alan Bates, in a crucial bit-part as an author who may have a good idea about what’s really going on.
