In this slick but soulless remake of the 1991 film, Luke Bracey plays rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah, who infiltrates a gang of robbers, led by Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez).

The new movie turns its antagonists into extreme sports athletes and justifies their wave-riding, sky-diving, free-climbing exploits with even larger doses of woolly New Age philosophising than director Kathryn Bigelow’s original, which starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.

But the glossy action fails to soar and there’s little emotional connection with the characters. Still, a suitably gruff and grizzled Ray Winstone adds value as Bracey’s badass FBI handler.
