A dog is not just for Christmas, as the saying goes, and this two-parter follows last week’s puppies as they adapt to life with their owners.

Cotswold farmer Dick Roper will be hoping his collies Jack and Jill have got what it takes to become working sheepdogs. In London, Rachel’s chihuahua, Louis, must learn to adapt to the sounds and smells of the city, while in Essex, rescue pup Betsy has to distinguish who’s boss in a family of four.

Vet Mark Evans is on hand with tips on behaviour and handling to – hopefully – deter some of the 15 per cent of owners who give up on their puppies in the first two years.
