It’s been a while since a truly laugh-out-loud comedy came along, so this clever but also wonderfully silly period romp, from Rev creator James Wood, is rather special.

With touches of Blackadder and M*A*S*H*, it follows a group of young medics as they party their way around Victorian London while carrying out pioneering treatments.

Mathew Baynton is sweet as shrink William, Rory Kinnear has a ball as big-headed surgeon Robert and Rupert Everett is delightful as their stuffy boss Dr Hendrick, whose bizarre methods include telling a patient with embarrassing pains to put a baked potato on the offending area.
