The intrepid Reggie Yates sets out to gain an insight into the American justice system by spending five days as an inmate in Bexar County jail in Texas. After meeting a distressed 19-year-old new arrival who has bipolar disorder, he tries to find out what provision is made for prisoners who have mental health problems. He soon discovers a catch-22 situation whereby inmates are unlikely to admit to any history of psychological issues, because they don’t want to be placed on the psychiatric wing, where dirty protests are commonplace and prisoners are confined for up to 23 hours a day. Disturbing viewing.
