Twelve men’s and 12 women’s teams are competing in the Rugby Sevens, which made its Olympics debut on Saturday 6 August with the women’s group stages. Today sees the beginning of the men’s version and since Sevens is played more extensively across the world than any other form of rugby, Team GB can expect stiff competition. With seven players a side playing seven-minute halves, Sevens is fast and furious with a high scoring rate. Team GB are captained by English specialist Sevens player Tom Mitchell, and have tough group games against Kenya and Japan today and New Zealand tomorrow.
