The show that gave us Todd Carty’s spectacular stumble and Chris Fountain’s daredevil routines is back – and guaranteed to warm up the cold evenings this January.

Among the 16 celebrities taking to the ice this year are Hollyoaks’ actress Jennifer Metcalfe, US rapper Vanilla Ice and Victoria Cross hero Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry.

Skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will be back to train the novice skaters but there are some significant changes to the show’s format.

Although 16 will prepare for the show, it’s the viewers who’ll decide which 12 contestants get to stay in the competition, with four contestants being axed in the first two shows on January 9 and 16.

And the judging panel has been given a shake-up, too. Following Nicky Slater’s departure, Spice Girl Emma Bunton and sharp-tongued choreographer Jason Gardiner will return to give their verdict, alongside former figure skater Robin Cousins, as head judge.

But the biggest change is that judge Karen Barber now becomes head coach, training the contestants during the week and offering them support on the live shows.

Speaking at the show’s launch at Shepperton Studios, Surrey, troubled star Kerry Katona revealed that she was taking part in the show for her kids.

She said: “I want them to be in that audience saying, yes, Kerry Katona, she’s our mum and we’re proud.

“This could not have happened at a more perfect time. I’m having so much fun, I haven’t laughed this much in so long.”

Kerry is partnered with pro skater Daniel Whiston, who triumphed last year with Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon. But who will make it to the final and get to dance the world famous Bolero?
