With Valentine’s Day just two days away, Emma and Sam flirt and reminisce at the breakfast table, and Sam infers that he has plans for the big day. At the Mill, Emma is concerned when she sees that Heston has an appointment to visit Sam scheduled amongst his rounds. She didn’t know Sam needed to see a doctor, and Heston is professionally evasive when she quizzes him. 

Paranoid, Emma starts to panic when she tries to call Sam and finds either the line engaged or her enquiries thwarted by his carer. Chris suggests Sam could simply be plotting some sort of overblown romantic gesture. But when Heston returns to The Mill, he’s even more evasive than before, and will only tell Emma that she must speak to Sam. Back at home, Sam fobs Emma off; he just wants to spend an uncomplicated evening together. Yet it’s clear something major is going on, something that will change their relationship forever…



Meanwhile, as single Jas has no interest in Valentine’s Day, Al is hopeful when Jas agrees to a sociable evening in the pub replaying their previous triumph at darts. When Al lands the dart that wins their game, Jas throws herself into his arms in a fit of competitive euphoria.  Though it’s all very platonic, Al can’t help but think he’s the luckiest man in the building when the barman mistakes them for a couple…



Also, Rob helps a colleague who is preparing for retirement deal with a recent, unresolved case involving the death of a fellow police officer.
