San Francisco is hit by a massive earthquake in his fantastically entertaining old-school disaster movie starring Dwayne Johnson.

Amid all the destruction, Johnson fronts the human drama as a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot facing divorce who has to save his wife (Carla Gugino) and then his daughter (Alexandra Daddario) from the chaos.

Paul Giamatti’s scientist is on hand to spout loads of nonsense about tectonic plates, Ioan Gruffudd is the irredeemable billionaire baddie and Kylie Minogue has one of the shortest star cameos on record.

The script positively revels in a string of familiar clichés, while the plot basically writes itself, but really those fabulously cheesy moments are just there to provide some much-needed breathers in between all the breathtaking CGI effects as skyscrapers tumble and landmarks, such as the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge, get a pasting.

Awesome stuff, guaranteed to leave you shaken, stirred and thoroughly thrilled to bits.
