With France’s dramatic last-second loss to Ireland in Paris at the beginning of February, captain Guilhem Guirado and his men need a comprehensive win against Wooden Spoon winners Italy tonight (k-o 8.00pm).

Although seemingly bedevilled by indiscipline, the French showed their strength when they played the Irish, with Teddy Thomas’s impressive 71st minute try and the resulting conversion.

The Italians were thrashed – not helped by their lack of defensive organisation – by the English in their first Six Nations game and very little suggests that they will get much change tonight from the French.
