According to coach Eddie Jones, this has been the most difficult England squad he’s ever had to assemble, what with a ridiculously long list of injuries, not least concerning former key players such as Billy Vunipola and James Haskell.

So eight of the 35-man squad are uncapped as they venture into their first Six Nations game, against Italy (k-o 3.00pm).

There’s still talent aplenty, not least in Owen Farrell who’s been in top form for Saracens
this season.

And England are still favourites to win for the third consecutive time… Italy and England also meet today in a Women’s Six Nations clash (k-o 5.30pm, Sky Sports Mix).
