This six-part drama series, based on Lawrence Hill’s novel The Book of Negroes, follows the story of Aminata Diallo, who is forced into a life of slavery in 18th-century America. It begins when Aminata is abducted as a young girl from her village in West Africa and put on a slave ship bound for the US. On the journey across the Atlantic, she quickly learns how to use her language and midwifery skills to her advantage. Aunjanue Ellis (The Help) plays the adult Aminata in a cast that also includes Cuba Gooding Junior (The People v OJ Simpson) and British actor Ben Chaplin (Game On, Mad Dogs).
