The Springwatch team are in Japan to celebrate the cherry blossom spring

Not many things are more evocative of spring than blossom, and this special Springwatch programme from Japan sees Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and James Wong joining the thousands who visit  every year to experience the ‘Sakura’, the cherry blossom spring.

In Kyoto, Michaela and Chris meet people celebrating the Sakura in parks, while ethnobotanist James travels to Mount Yoshino to see for himself how the 30,000 trees which wow visitors are kept healthy by specialist gardeners.

Chris, of course, is interested to see the wildlife that thrives alongside the blossom, going in search of the tiny Japanese white-eye bird.
