Her Majesty recalls the day she was crowned Queen.

It’s 65 years since a young Princess Elizabeth was crowned.

Now the Queen herself talks about the day and the moment when her life changed for ever.

She also recalls being present at the coronation of her father, George VI, in 1937. ‘I’ve seen one coronation and been the recipient in the other, which is pretty remarkable,’ she says, showing a knack for understatement as well as longevity.

These personal memories are what make this programme special – for example, the Queen’s recollection of the sheer weight of St Edward’s Crown, a mass of gold and precious stones usually on display at the Tower of London. She hasn’t worn it since that day.
