Merlin has to work his magic overtime in a two-part story that sees Camelot put under threat by King Uther’s attraction to a beautiful woman who’s really a scheming troll in disguise.

In part one, Lady Catrina (guest star Sarah Parish – Mistresses, Cutting It) arrives in Camelot and captures the heart of King Uther. So entranced is the stoney-faced king that he even smiles – a lot! Catrina and her servant, Jonas, are also given a warm welcome by the people of Camelot but Arthur, Merlin and Gaius are less enthusiastic about her presence…

Arthur’s put off his food as his father flirts shamelessly with the beauty over dinner but Merlin has stronger reasons for being repelled by Catrina: he’s discovered she’s a terrible troll. Will Arthur believe him, though? No. But Merlin’s guardian Gaius is right behind him. However, King Uther is not going to listen to a word said against his new love, so how can Merlin and Gaius prevent him making Lady Catrina Queen of Camelot? Because they’ve realised that once the monstrous Catrina has Uther where she wants him she will have the whole of Camelot to do with as she wishes – and that won’t be good for anyone…

Is Merlin’s magic a match for Catrina’s? Find out in the concluding episode on Saturday 31 October.
