It is Chris’s last day at work and mum Emma still does her best to cover her upset in the face of her son’s excitement. Chris is determined to remain upbeat and cringes when either Karen or his mother becomes sentimental – he doesn’t want a fuss or a big send-off. Meanwhile Al, Mandy and Jimmi charge Barry with organising Chris’s going away party and Zara’s horrified they’d leave it to an oddball like Barry! Despite her concern, the surprise party is a great success with cork hats, surf boards and even Chris’s own Bush Tucker Trial.
After saying an emotional farewell to Chris at the train station, Emma has an estate agent over to value the house. She embarrasses herself by misinterpreting the man’s intentions but also comes to the realisation that it’s too soon to sell her family home. Later, Emma realises how lonely she’ll be now her son is gone.
Also, Mandy deals with a new mother who is riddled with feelings of inadequacy.
