‘A biscuit would have been nice,’ says Vera (Brenda Blethyn) dismissively to her unfortunate deputy, Aiden (Kenny Doughty), after he’s brought her a cup of tea.
They’re investigating the murder of a young man found face down in a river and Vera is, as ever, focusing on ‘trivial’ aspects other cops overlook.
The needle marks on the victim’s body suggest the killing could be drug related, but then Vera discovers a surprising connection to a murder from 13 years before.
Kenny remembers the case well, but is he telling Vera the whole truth about his old investigation?
Vera and Kenny have always had terrific banter, so it’s nice to see their relationship explored a bit more deeply in this intriguing and rewarding story.
