Former Doctor Who star Noel Clarke has always added grit to his performances and now he’s uncovering equally strong relatives in his family.

Intrigued by the ancestry of his mum Gemma, who was raised in Trinidad by her grandmother Elizabeth, he learns that Elizabeth had to leave her own children for America to make money to support them.

In Carriacou, Noel is horrified to learn that his four-times great-grandfather Glasgow was born into slavery.

But Noel’s spirits are lifted when he’s welcomed into the family fold with a powerful musical ritual performed by Glasgow’s descendants.
