Meet Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the 17-year-old cellist who won BBC Young Musician 2016 – the first black musician to do so – and whose star looks set to rise even higher.
Introducing us to Sheku’s large and supportive family – he has six siblings, all with a passion for classical music – this lovely film tells his story and reveals the dedication, drive and sacrifices required by the whole family to fulfil their dreams.
It also follows Sheku as he prepares for his big solo at London’s Royal Festival Hall with Chineke Chi-chi Nwanoku’s orchestra made up of black and minority ethnic musicians, and explores the issue of diversity in classical music. We defy you not to be moved when Sheku wows the crowd…
