Still reeling from wife Amy’s shock revelation that she’d slept with his enemy, Holby City‘s Raf now wants to know if the father of her unborn child is him or Harry, as Joe McFadden reveals…
How devastated is Raf after learning that wife Amy had slept with Harry?
“Raf thought having an affair was the last thing Amy would do. Raf believes in the marriage vows they made and he thought she did too. He’s angry that he could have been so foolish.”
It’s fair to say that Raf’s personal turmoil spills over into his work this week, when a panic attack leaves him unable to stabilise a patient…
“Raf’s instincts have always been to put his job first. But it might be a challenge for him to put all of this darkness in his private life to one side.”
Knowing he has to take control, Raf orders Amy to take a paternity test to determine if he or Harry is the father of Amy’s baby. What’s going through his mind?
“Raf begins to wonder just how much Amy consciously tried to get pregnant – after months of failed fertility treatment with him, did she sleep with Harry thinking it was a way to finally have a child?”
And what is Raf’s behaviour like towards Harry?
“Well, in any other situation they would all have it out, and there would be lots of shouting and crying. But Raf, Amy and Harry all have to work together; they’re in this job where they have to heal people, day in, day out, so that has to come first. But obviously there’s going to be a lot of fall-out to come.”
Do you think viewers will have sympathy for Raf?
“Raf’s the good guy in all this, so I think they will have sympathy. But I’m sure a lot of people will also feel sorry for Amy – a woman so desperate to have a baby she just did what she had to do.”
Holby City continues on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1.
