Ex-Hollyoaks star Paul Danan apparently became embroiled in a row at a beauty contest, which resulted in the police having to be called.

Paul, who also appeared on ITV1’s Love Island, was asked to judge MissStudentUK.com but ended up in a dispute with organisers about his fee and is said to have been rude to contestants.

The 26-year-old was asked to leave Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, the event venue. It’s alleged that police were called when he refused to go.

Graham Townend, company director for MissStudentUK.com, said: “Halfway through the night I was alerted to the fact that he (Danan) was drunk. I asked him if he was all right and could continue to be with us and do the judging as required and he said yes, he was.

“But unfortunately he started to be rude to contestants. We have had emails from contestants since saying how he was rude to them.”

He said Derby County staff asked Danan to leave.

Contestant Hannah Tomkins, 20, told the Derby Evening Telegraph that Danan “seemed really rude”.

But Paul vehemently denies upsetting anyone, saying: “I was there to do a job and they did not want to pay me because I was not the Celebrity Love Island person they wanted me to be. I am not that person any more. It is all completely untrue.”

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that we were called after he (Paul Danan) was asked to leave but we didn’t take any action because he had not committed any offences.

“I understand he came to some arrangement with the people who got him there and then he left.”
