Hollyoaks actress Gemma Merna has admitted she is ‘heartbroken’ about co-star Jorgie Porter leaving the soap.
Gemma, who plays Carmel McQueen, told TV Extra that she was very sad to hear her friend Jorgie, who plays her cousin Theresa McQueen, was quitting the Channel 4 series.
She said: “She’s my best friend and we’re very close, so it was heartbreaking. It’s the choices people want to make but, fingers crossed, maybe one day she will want to come back.”
Theresa will leave when she finally gets caught out for murdering Carmel’s husband Calvin Valentine (Ricky Whittle) on their wedding day three years ago.
Gemma said she had no plans to leave despite her on-screen relatives Jacqui McQueen (Claire Cooper) and Myra McQueen (Nicole Barber-Lane) both also having departed this year: “I’m very happy at the moment. I love life here. Carmel is getting some great storylines. If you’re not getting good storylines, that’s when you get itchy feet.
“I’ve been working here for seven years and it’s like a family. We’ve been through so much together, I would hugely miss it.”
Another McQueen actor planning to stick around at Hollyoaks is Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes and has just signed a new contract.
She told the Daily Star Sunday: “I can’t believe how quickly it’s gone. It’s crazy. But I’m really happy. Bryan [Kirkwood, executive producer] has some big stuff planned and I’m loving it. So much so that I’ve signed for another year.”
