Hollyoaks stars Saira Choudhry and Kieron Richardson say the life of a TV actor can be anything but glamorous.

The young stars, who play Anita Roy and Ste Hay in Hollyoaks, have offered up an insight into the soap machine, with Saira revealing there are times when she has to work six or seven days a week.

Kieron reveals a normal day on set averages 10 hours: “I think on this show, putting it against other soaps, we probably work harder… We’re on like five nights a week and so it does get quite stressful.”

Saira, whose role in the Channel 4 soap is her first major TV part, adds: “When I had a big storyline, I was in at half seven every day and didn’t leave until seven at night, and that would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday… right through to the Saturday and even Sunday sometimes, so it was hard work.”

As a result the cast are a tightly-knit group, Kieron says: “It reminds me of just being at school or college and everyone meets up at dinner time. I do think there is a lot of passion from everybody.”

Saira adds: “It’s just brilliant – I come here and I love the people that I work with and everyday is different, everyday is a challenge.”
