Hollyoaks’ priestly Richard explains he’s no saint

Hollyoaks actor Richard Winsor reckons there’ll be some testing times ahead for his character Father Francis.

The dishy priest has got a little too close to trainee nun Carmel Valentine, and the pair will be pushed to the limit over whether to give in to their desires or stay true to their religious beliefs.

The pair shared a passionate kiss in day spa Cinergy, before a confused Carmel, played by Gemma Merna, rushed off.

In an interview on Hollyoaks‘ website, new boy Richard said of the juicy storyline: “With Carmel they’re just going to take it as far as it can possibly go, with their religion being so strong. I think that’s the confusion, they really have to question themselves. It’s quite a deep ride for them both.”

Richard also revealed that he’s glad Father Francis has been styled as a ‘trendy priest’, with a wardrobe from the appropriately named All Saints.

“I went off with the stylist on my first day and we spoke about where we think he should go, what kind of look would he work with, and All Saints had this kind of grey, dark but with a mysterious edge to it. And the fact that it’s called All Saints and I’m playing a priest worked in an ironic sense. The style of it just kind of worked for the character.”
