Actress Stephanie Davis has revealed she was so overwhelmed by meeting her Hollyoaks co-stars she called them all by their character names at first.

The 18-year-old – who also appeared on the BBC1 talent show Over The Rainbow – plays Sinead O’Connor in the soap, joining last summer with the rest of the O’Connor family.

And Stephanie – who was a huge Hollyoaks fan before joining the cast – admitted, “I used to call them all by their character names when I first started and completely embarrass myself like a proper dork!”

“But everyone was dead welcoming. It’s like a big family.”

Onscreen Stephanie is set for a dramatic storyline as Sinead runs away with boyfriend Bart after being banned by her mother from seeing him.

She admitted she has been “living, breathing and sleeping Hollyoaks” while the scenes – often involving 12-hour days – are filmed.

“Everyone thinks it’s dead easy, but it’s hard,” she said.

“I go home, have my tea watching Hollyoaks, then I learn my script for the next day and then I go to sleep thinking of Hollyoaks and then my alarm goes off to get up. It’s all Hollyoaks, Hollyoaks, Hollyoaks.”

However Stephanie added that she was delighted to be a part of the show.

“I used to come home and watch The Simpsons and then Hollyoaks. That was back when Emma Rigby was in it and she had that anorexia storyline. I used to fancy Newt (Nico Mirallegro) – don’t know why, I just did!”
