Home And Away star Axle Whitehead has revealed his delight at his character’s forthcoming romance with his real-life girlfriend.
The 31-year-old actor is set to see his Summer Bay alter-ego, barman Liam Murphy, grow closer to university student Indigo Walker, who is played by Samara Weaving.
The co-stars are rumoured to be dating after they were spotted cuddling in Sydney.
“It was such a joy to work with Sam. The two characters hadn’t had much to do with each other before this,” he told the West Australian.
The pair get closer on screen when Indi’s estranged husband Romeo Smith (Luke Mitchell) tries to win her back, only to realise that Liam is his new love rival in scenes to air in coming weeks in Australia.
“They’ve [Liam and Indi] both sort of been through failed marriages. Their friendship started above all when they were both working at Angelo’s, and they made a pact together just to keep each other cheery,” the actor continued.
“A nice, light friendship started from that and then I suppose a bit of chemistry sort of starts. He’s in a very difficult spot and they both know they shouldn’t.”
Axle is remaining tight-lipped on the romance speculation, adding: “Yeah, we’re hanging out and there’s just been rumours flying around and we’re enjoying each other’s company… taking it slow.”
He’s also keeping any details about the storyline close to his chest.
“It gets pretty juicy and convoluted and in the next month a few things go wrong, so we’re just going to have to wait and see,” he said.
