Home And Away star Ray Meagher has vowed never to retire from the soap, joking he’ll be on set on a Zimmer frame.

The 68-year-old actor has played Alf Stewart in Summer Bay since the soap started 25 years ago, and doesn’t ever want to leave.

He said: “I don’t like the ‘R’ word. They’ll have to wheel me in. Put me on a Zimmer thing!”

In 2012, Ray took a break from Home And Away to appear in the West End musical version of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, and he also regularly spends his winter holidays in the UK starring in panto. But he is thinking of cutting down his workload.

He said: “I had a look at my birth certificate the other day and the number on there was really frightening. It was a silly thing to do. I think now because there are so many miles on the clock and I’m not sure how many miles I have got. If I came back for something it would have to be something that I really wanted to do.”

Ray revealed the secret to his vitality is long walks and bee pollen.

He said: “I walk around the harbour for about an hour a time, minimum three times a week. I need to do a little bit more of that again now. “And there’s a thing called Nature Bee that’s made in New Zealand. I’ve got no idea what it is. Some sort of bee pollen something or other that’s supposed to detox. So I do one of those a day.”
