Camilla Dallerup’s reasons for quitting the I’m A Celebrity jungle have been revealed, with her telling viewers “my body can’t take it” after suffering crippling exhaustion.
The dancer had talks with show medics before walking out of the jungle camp amid fears she may have caused long-term damage to her health as she struggled to find energy for the simplest of tasks.
The Strictly Come Dancing star was replaced on the ITV1 show by former boxing champ Joe Bugner, who swaps past opponents such as Muhammad Ali for insects and lizards.
Camilla had been visibly struggling since she entered the show on Sunday, sobbing about how she was exhausted as other concerned contestants rallied round.
She told the show: “I’ve decided to leave the camp. I’ve had a chat with the medics and I’ve taken the decision because if I stayed any longer I could risk my health. I feel really weak like I could faint any time.
“I’m a small person and I don’t have any reserve to draw on, and today when I woke up it had got worse. I just felt this was the worst I’ve ever felt. I was so weak I could hardly walk down to the river and back.”
The former Strictly Come Dancing star said she had never quit anything before, but her lack of energy was taking its toll to the extent that she was unable to help out, leaving the work to others.
As Bugner prepared to enter the show, he said: “I do have butterflies. Not like when I fought Muhammad Ali or Joe Frazier, but I’m nervous with anticipation. I’ve never slept under a jungle canopy and I’m worried about all the creepy crawlies.”
