I’m A Celebrity: Time’s up for John!

Chef John Burton Race has become the fourth person to be voted out of the jungle in the current series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The 50-year-old was given his marching orders after both he and TV presenter Anna Ryder Richardson were in the bottom two.

John appeared jubilant as his name was announced – although admitted afterwards he was a little disappointed.

“I would have liked to have stayed longer,” he told Ant and Dec, “but actually it’s funny how the brain stops and leaves one thing. You get the result and instantly you’re looking forward to the future.

However, he described his jungle experience as “fantastic. It’s been the most memorable time I’ve ever had in my life,” he said.

“But it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Most of the time you’re starving hungry, then you’ve got to deal with all these personalities. Or not,” he joked.

He also discussed his rocky relationship with Lynne, describing her as “completely objectionable”.

“She was completely lazy in the camp, and I don’t like lazy people – and I didn’t get any of her spirituality,” he admitted. “I’m not on her plane, or her planet, or her zone, or whatever it was.”

“But a lot of childish behaviour goes on in camp, when you’re stressed, you’re tired, you’re hungry, you’re missing your life at home, and being put under very adverse conditions…it brings out the worst in you.”

However, he had kinder words for other campmates, including J, whom he described as his “best buddy”, and Janice.

“She’s as mad as a march hare,” he said, “and I really like her. She’s bonkers, mental, outspoken, loud, camera-hogging, show-off, diva – but I like her a lot. And if you want a good argument, just wind her up.”
