This is the closest they’ve been in years.
Funny women from different generations whose appeal is very much a matter of taste, Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn team up to play mother and daughter in fish-out-of-water action comedy Snatched. Sloppily conceived and executed, it’s unlikely to win over any detractors or doubters.
The story kicks off with Schumer’s Emily persuading her reluctant mom Linda to join her on a holiday to Ecuador after her boyfriend dumps her on the eve of the trip. Emily and Linda are presented as chalk and cheese: the former up for adventure while the latter is so cautious she dresses ‘like a beekeeper’ to ward off the sun. Naturally, differences are put aside when a local kidnapping ring abducts them.
There are some fairly lame thrills and spills as the women strive to escape, and a big dose of gross-out comedy involving a giant tapeworm. That said, you’ll probably find the film’s supporting cast funnier than its stars, with chuckles provided by Wanda Sykes and Joan Cusack’s chummy American tourists and Christopher Meloni’s seemingly dashing jungle adventurer.
