EastEnders, Danny Dyer, Sheridan Smith triumph at the National TV Awards

The National TV Awards saw Eastenders steal the show, winning three awards at the UK’s biggest television awards show, best serial drama, best serial drama performance (Danny Dyer) and best newcomer (Maddy Hill).

This year’s Landmark Award went to Comic Relief, which celebrates 30 years in 2015. Lenny Henry, a Trustee of the charity, took to the stage to accept the prestigious award, presented by Davina McCall.

The sad news of Anne Kirkbride’s death was marked this evening, with a moving tribute from on-screen husband William Roache, which lead to a minute of rapturous applause throughout the O2 in London. Anne’s closest Corrie colleagues were in attendance to mark her life and remarkable career.

In one of three brand new awards for 2015, the tables were turned in the TV Judge category as the viewers took to the judging panel. Rivalry was fierce, X Factor’s Simon Cowell took on Bake-Off’s Mary Berry. In a TV first, the award was presented by Gogglebox’s Tapper Family via live link, direct from their living room sofa. It was David Walliams who was first to scoop the coveted prize for Britain’s Got Talent.
