Connie Fisher has revealed that she met her current boyfriend by chance on a crowded train platform.
The 25-year-old West End star – who won the BBC’s talent search How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? in 2006 – got together with Jeremy Reed in a scene more reminiscent of Brief Encounter than The Sound of Music.
Connie told Hello! magazine she met the 40-year-old as she was returning to London from Wales, where she had been rehearsing for the Cardiff National Eisteddfod.
She took a seat between two men on a platform bench, she said, adding: “I was too busy talking (on her mobile) to pay much attention to them.
“But as I sat down, I had a feeling one of them was going to start talking to me.”
Mr Reed, who works for an international bank, struck up a conversation.
Connie, currently starring in They’re Playing Our Song with Alistair McGowan, told Hello!: “I thought, ‘That’s all I need, some sleazy guy trying to chat me up.’
“We had a bit of a conversation but I didn’t even look at him. Then after a few minutes it seemed like I was being rude … so I turned round and there was this absolutely gorgeous, rugged man with the cutest dimples.”
The pair hit it off but caught different trains without exchanging numbers or even surnames.
But they were later re-introduced by Welsh tenor Bryn Terfel, who told her “a friend of a friend of a friend” had bumped into her at a station and wanted to meet again.
The full interview with the couple is in this week’s Hello! magazine, on sale Tuesday.
