A Trip to the Moon - Georges Méliès 1902 film

With Martin Scorsese’s enchanting children’s film Hugo currently reminding audiences of the treasured legacy of French film pioneer Georges Méliès, it’s a delight to see that London’s Ciné Lumiere is showing his hugely inventive 1902 special-effects classic A Trip to the Moon in its original colour version.

Long thought lost, the film’s original colour version has been lovingly restored by Groupama Gan Foundation, Technicolor Foundation and Lobster Films and was shown to great acclaim at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Making tonight’s UK premiere screening even more of a special occasion, French electronic music duo Air, composers of the film’s new soundtrack, will be attending.
