Agyness Deyn, Jim Sturgess to star in Luther creator’s new BBC1 thriller, Hard Sun

Former model Agyness Deyn will co-star with Jim Sturgess in a new crime drama, Hard Sun, from the pen of Luther creator Neil Cross

London actor Jim Sturgess and former top model Agyness Deyn are to co-star in Hard Sun, a ‘pre-apocalyptic crime drama’ written by Neil Cross, who created Luther.

Jim and Agyness play detectives Robert Hicks and Elaine Renko, partners and enemies, who seek to enforce the law and protect their loved ones in a world that every day slips closer to certain destruction in the 6 x one-hour drama series.

Jim (pictured) said: “I am very excited to be playing Hicks in this wonderful project. To work with Neil’s fantastic writing is a great opportunity and I hope we are going to create an amazing experience for our audience. I can’t wait to get started!”

Agyness added: “As soon as I read the first episode I was hooked. I’m such a fan of both Neil and Brian’s work, it’s an honour to join the Hard Sun team.”

Their relationship will be at the heart of Hard Sun. Hicks is a family man and a great, committed copper, but he’s also profoundly corrupt.  Renko is difficult and damaged – and utterly incorruptible.  Hicks and Renko seriously distrust one other – and for good reason – but they must somehow learn to work together… if they’re going to survive until the end of the world.

Filming in London will start later this month for broadcast later in 2017 and the series will be produced by Euston Films and Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Great Expectations) is the lead director.
