Alan Davies has admitted he felt right at home reprising his role as Jonathan Creek – once he’d put on the character’s duffel coat.
The comic returns as the illusionist turned investigator for a one-off special, due to be shown on BBC1 on New Year’s Day.
Talking to whatsontv.co.uk about playing Jonathan again after a five-year break, Alan said: “It was very exciting. I wasn’t quite sure at first, I couldn’t remember my lines.
“But, as soon as I’d got the duffle coat on and put the black plimsolls on and looked in the mirror, I thought, ah yeah, there’s Jonathan Creek.”
Jonathan’s sidekick for this special mystery is Joey Ross, played by Two Pints of Lager actress Sheridan Smith.
“Joey is a feisty, ballsy Northern kind of girl,” revealed Sheridan. “She thinks [Jonathan] is an old fuddy duddy and she’s very strong-minded, so they just clash straight away.”
Jonathan Creek: The Grinning Man will be shown on New Year’s Day at 9pm on BBC1.
