Alex Jones is the first celebrity booked to waltz on to the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, according to reports.

The One Show presenter is said to be following in Christine Bleakley’s footsteps once again by foxtrotting onto the BBC One show.

An insider told The Sun: “Alex has been a dream come true for The One Show. She held the whole thing together and everyone’s grateful. Bosses think it’s her time to shine.”

Welsh presenter Alex, 33, took over The One Show role after Christine, who also dazzled on Strictly, quit for ITV.

The Sun also reported that Vernon Kay, who had emerged as the front-runner to become the new host of Strictly when Bruce Forsyth retires, faces a challenge from Torchwood star John Barrowman.

A source told the paper: “John knows Vern’s a strong contender, but thinks his music and theatre background can swing it.”

Kara Tointon took the Strictly crown in last year’s series, with her professional dance partner turned boyfriend Artem Chigvintsev.
