The Bill star Andrew Lancel thinks his character suits a later time slot as the police drama moves to 9pm on Thursday.

Andrew’s character, Neil Manson, is central to the two-part story to mark The Bill’s new post-watershed time slot, which he says is perfect for the straight-laced DI.

He told whatsontv.co.uk: “Manson has always been nine o’clock-y – he’s always been quite withdrawn and doesn’t put anything on the table unless he has to.”

As well as a new time slot, The Bill will also boast new titles, a new theme tune and be filmed entirely in high definition.

Andrew added: “Everything is going to be more highly defined. This is The Bill as I think people have always wanted it.”

The Bill at 9pm begins on Thursday July 23 on ITV1.
