Broadcaster Andrew Marr will return to his TV and radio presenting duties in the autumn after suffering a stroke earlier this year.

The 53-year-old, who has undergone intensive physiotherapy to learn to walk again, will return to The Andrew Marr Show from September 1, and will also once again host Radio 4 programme Start The Week.

Marr said: “I’m hugely looking forward to coming back and giving it my all, although recovering from a stroke does take time.

“We’ve taken the decision to start with the Sunday show in the autumn and I’m delighted to be returning to Start The Week later in the year.”

A Radio 4 spokesman added: “Andrew is a fantastic presenter and we look forward to having him back.

The show will continue to be hosted by Stephanie Flanders as well as other guest presenters until Marr returns.

The presenter suffered the stroke following a heavy exercise session in January – but initially thought he was suffering from a bad migraine and did not seek help until his symptoms worsened the next day.

He later admitted that a heavy workload had contributed to his illness, confessing that he had been ‘overdoing things’.
