Anita Dobson has revealed she’s been invited to take part in Strictly Come Dancing, but refused on two separate occasions.

The actress, best known for playing Angie Watts in EastEnders, said she hasn’t said yes because she reckons the experience will be too nerve-wracking.

“I’ve been asked twice, but I don’t want to go in front of the judges,” she said.

“I love dancing and I’d never say never, but I don’t want all the pressure of being told that you’re not doing very well and people don’t like you! It becomes too personal.

“If I could do it as a character, I’d do it in a nanosecond, but with Strictly, it’s you under the spotlight, and I’m very private,” she said.

Anita, who is presenting Ration Book Britain: Entertaining The Home Front, would like to make the move onto the big screen or head to Hollywood.

“I’d love to do a really good cameo in a big movie that would live on, or maybe a nice cameo in an American series,” she said.

“I can be picky now, so I’m just going to wait for the projects that make me go, ‘I have to do it. It’s going to be scary, but I have to do it!'”

Ration Book Britain: Entertaining The Home Front is on Yesterday on February 24 at 9pm (Sky 537, Virgin 203, Freeview 12).
