Ant and Dec struggle with US show

Ant and Dec‘s bid to crack America is proving a struggle after their show failed to attract a big audience for the second week running.

The Geordie duo’s quiz Wanna Bet was watched by just 3.4 million viewers on Monday – making it only the 89th most watched show. Some TV critics in the States have even called the programme ‘dumb’.

A source close to Ant and Dec said: “The boys always knew America would be tough to crack but one thing they have never been afraid of is hard work.

“Of course the viewing figures are a concern but it’s not quite panic stations yet.”

Wanna Bet, shown on ABC, sees celebrity guests gamble on whether members of the public can do a bizarre challenge such as hula-hooping with a tractor tyre.

A Hollywood Reporter review said: “Wanna bet after watching one episode you’re gonna feel just a little bit dumber?”

Here in the UK, Ant and Dec pull in audiences of up to 10 million each week on shows such as Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway.
