The last four candidates are set to battle it out on Wednesday night to become Sir Alan Sugar’s latest employee in The Apprentice.

The final quartet are Claire Young, 29, Alex Wotherspoon, 25, Helene Speight, 32, and Lee McQueen, 30, who face one of their toughest tasks to date – designing and manufacturing a new men’s fragrance.

During a get-together of the quartet in London, ahead of the grand finale, Claire said winning The Apprentice would be ‘the icing on the cake’. Lee described Sir Alan as ‘one of the best entrepreneurs in the UK and I want to learn from that’.

Helene said it would be ‘fantastic’ to win and added: “It’s been a real rollercoaster experience”. Alex said of winning: “It means everything to all of us…”

The 11 gruelling weeks of tasks have seen 16 wannabe tycoons whittled down to four in a business boot camp from hell. The show has regularly drawn more than seven million viewers on BBC One and around three million for You’re Fired on BBC Two.

Talking about the reaction they have received from the public, Alex said about 80 per cent of his conversations were Apprentice-based.

Claire added: “It’s quite funny when people come up to you and say how you should be doing the task.” Lee said that before he went on the show: “I was one of those people shouting from the sofa, saying: ‘You idiot’.”

Speaking about their experiences with Sir Alan, Helene said: “He’s the kind of person that I like to work with.”
