Girls Aloud are reportedly set to split after their forthcoming 10th anniversary tour, according to the papers.

The Sun reports that the band – who were formed on the 2002 series Popstars The Rivals – secretly agreed to call it a day after reuniting late last year, but kept their plans under wraps.

However a source told the paper that their tour, which is due to begin next month, would be their farewell.

“The girls have known all along that this would be the last time they would all work together,” the insider said. “At the press conference to announce the tour, they deliberately dodged questions about future plans because they did not want to spoil the excitement.

“They all felt it wasn’t right for them to be singing songs like Love Machine and performing the same way when they’re in their thirties,” the source added.

“They all want to make this a way to bow out on a high and walk away for the next chapter in their lives without constant questions about when they will be getting back together.”

Band members Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts have enjoyed solo chart success away from Girls Aloud, while Kimberley Walsh is currently following in their footsteps.

Kimberley – who recently finished runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing 2012 – is set to release her solo album Centre Stage – in which she covers musical theatre classics – in early February.

Fellow band member Sarah Harding has moved into acting, while Nadine Coyle relocated to Los Angeles where she owns a bar.
