Channel 4 is seeking families to participate in a documentary about children’s overuse of TV and computers.

According to research agency Childwise, the average British child spends a total of five hours and 20 minutes a day in front of a TV or computer screen and four out of five have a TV in their rooms.

It seems children would rather watch TV or text their friends than talk to their parents. Some experts believe that all this viewing might have a knock-on effect: Dr Aric Sigman, of the Institute of Biology, suggests that ‘hours of television viewing are linked to sleeping problems’.

Now Channel 4 is researching a documentary about children who watch excessive amounts of TV and would like to talk to their parents/carers.

They’re trying to build up a picture of how parents/carers feel about this trend and how it affects day-to-day life, from relationships to childcare.
