Arlene Phillips has claimed she only watches Strictly Come Dancing because she has to.

The 67-year-old choreographer was dropped from the judging panel last year and now writes a newspaper column about the BBC celebrity talent show, but insists she has better things to do on a Saturday night than watch TV.

Arlene told New magazine: “If I wasn’t writing a column about it, there’s no way I’d switch it on. I watch it because I have to. I don’t want to spend every Saturday evening in front of the TV.”

Asked if she’d ever return to the show as a judge she said: “They will never ask me so it’s not something I ever think about.

“It’s happened, there’s nothing I can do about it and there’s no point in worrying about it. I’m moving on with my life.”

But Arlene revealed she keeps in touch with the other judges. She said: “Craig [Revel Horwood] and Bruno [Tonioli] both live around the corner from me so we meet up for dinner and a gossip. We’re all gossips, but I’m probably the biggest!”

The So You Think You Can Dance judge, currently choreographing Flashdance: The Musical, sparked an age debate when she was replaced on Strictly by younger judge Alesha Dixon.

And Arlene is taking steps to look younger.

She said: I’ve had some Botox and fillers, but it was so painful. A lot of my friends are now having “baby Botox” (using the same ingredients as normal Botox but in smaller quantities). Apparently it doesn’t hurt, so as soon as I get some time, baby Botox here I come!

“[Botox] works wonders, but you’ve got to have a good pain threshold.”
