Arrow star Katherine McNamara joins Stephen King’s The Stand

Katherine McNamara has joined the cast of Stephen King’s The Stand.

The actress, who currently stars in CW TV series Arrow, has joined the cast of the new series that is based on Stephen’s King’s 1978 novel.

Taking to her Instagram page to share the exciting news with her over three million followers, the actress wrote, ‘#THESTAND So excited to finally be able to share this news! Thank you @joshboonemovies and @cbsallaccess. My @StephenKing fangirl heart is floating today. 🎈’.

The post quickly raked up over 60,000 likes with fans leaving hundreds of messages of congratulations.

The new series will retell the apocalyptic happenings of the classic fantasy novel in 10 episodes.

James Marsden, who starred in popular Netflix Original series Dead to Me, has also previously signed up to the new show, as well as Aquaman actress Amber Heard.

The story will follow a world where 99 per cent of the earth’s population has been killed off by a deadly virus.

James Marsden will play hero Stu Redman, who is an ordinary working-class man that will become the leader of the surviving population.

While Amber Heard will play Nadine Cross, a woman who is conflicted by her allegiance to Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Shadowhunters star Katherine is said to have been cast as small-town girl Julie Lawry who has a bit of a wild side.

It was announced at CBS All Access’ summer Television Critics Association presentation that original author legendary Stephen King will have hand in writing the new series.

He will contributing to the new show in the form of an extra episode at the end of the season.

The iconic author will be writing the tenth and last episode of the season, which will actually be made up of brand new material.

The episode will be going beyond the events of the original book, so fans can be treated to a completely surprise ending.

The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone will be directing the new series, as well as taking up the role of writer and executive producer alongside Homeland producer Ben Cavell.
