Ashley Taylor Dawson has missed out on a place in the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final after becoming the latest celebrity to be voted off the show.
The Hollyoaks actor survived last weekend’s brush with the bottom two, which saw Mark Benton finally sent home after four consecutive dance-offs.
However he proved unable to see off the challenge from Casualty’s Patrick Robinson, who was also facing his second dance-off of the series.
Once again the judges were divided over the verdict after Ashley and partner Ola Jordan had reprised their salsa, and Patrick and Anya had performed their rumba once more.
While Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel Horwood all voted to save Patrick Len Goodman admitted he would have saved Ashley and Ola, saying he ‘totally disagreed’ with the verdict.
“For me Ashley and Ola should have been through,” he said. “I know Ashley missed that last lift, however I’m only judging this one routine. If I hadn’t had seen it before I wouldn’t have known there was going to be a lift there.
“Plus, the cardinal sin in Rumba is stepping forward on the heel. There is never a heel lead. Unfortunately on that last routine that we saw, Patrick did many and on that basis I would have 100% gone for Ashley.”
Afterwards the actor said his time on Strictly had been “absolutely amazing” – as well as paying fond tribute to Ola.
“I’ve had a fantastic time and of course this lovely lady standing here, it’s been an absolute delight,” he said.
He also praised his ‘amazing fiance’ – who gave birth to their second son within days of the first show of the series – telling her she had ‘done an incredible job while I’ve not been there.’
Ashley’s departure means that Patrick is the last man standing in the competition, with Abbey Clancy, Natalie Gumede, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Susanna Reid all having made it through to the semi-final.
Next weekend’s show will see the five remaining couples take on two routines each in a bid to make it to the final on December 21.
