Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has admitted he is “thrilled” to be appearing in the next Star Trek film – but has refused to say anything more about the role.

The actor is set to play the villain in JJ Abrams’ forthcoming film – due for release in 2013 – alongside cast regulars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana.

However, speaking at the TV Critics’ Winter press tour in Pasadena, California, Benedict said, “It’s a great job to get, and I’m thrilled. But I can tell you nothing. There’s a lawyer standing here saying that I can’t say anything.”

“You are like kids who want to eat the entire box of chocolates,” he joked. “There should be some magic and enigma. If we can hold it back, you will have more to look forward to.”

The actor, who added that he was “hugely excited” and “very very flattered” to have landed the role in the film, also recently revealed that he would love to also land a role in an action blockbuster.

“I wouldn’t turn my nose up at an action film. I love the idea of getting involved,” he told BBC Radio.

“I love the Bonds, and Bourne as well. They’re both fantastic franchises and that would be great fun.”
