Bionic Woman lifts ITV2 to record ratings

The US series Bionic Woman, starring former EastEnder Michelle Ryan, attracted a record 2.2 million viewers to ITV2 on Tuesday night.

The unofficial overnight figures are the biggest ever audience for digital channel ITV2 and amounted to a 10.5 percent share of the TV audience.

But the massive success of the UK debut will be tempered by reports that it’s unlikely to get a second series because NBC was unhappy with the US ratings for series one. It will be interesting to see if the series holds on to its audience on ITV2 next week.

According to the Media Guardian’s website, ITV2’s previous best was 1.9 million for Footballers’ Wives: Extra Time in 2005.

The Secret Diary of a Call Girl, starring Billie Piper, launched with 1.8 million in September last year.

BBC1’s Hotel Babylon won the 9pm slot with five million viewers and a 21 per cent share across the hour.
