Richard Madden on the man everyone’s talking about, bodyguard David Budd. Contains Bodyguard spoilers!
New BBC1 thriller Bodyguard, starring Keeley Hawes as Home Secretary Julia Montague and Richard Madden as her bodyguard, David Budd, has instantly become the biggest thing on telly.
And the questions on everyone’s lips is whether David Budd will protect Julia or ultimately bump her off!
Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden has suggested that David is motivated by good rather than evil, so perhaps that means Budd won’t assassinate the Home Secretary.
“He’s dedicated to his job and does his duty to a high quality, but he has strong political opinions. He’s full of contradictions and there is a struggle going on inside him, but he’s a good man” says Richard.
David leapt to Julia’s rescue last night as bullets thudded into her car, but we still wonder if Budd might ultimately turn his gun on his boss…
Meanwhile, Richard says he loved doing all the action scenes but all the standing around with a perfectly straight back as Budd gave him a bad back.
“I do a lot of running around the streets, across rooftops, firing guns and there are also a few car chases, so there’s a lot of action.
“I also do a lot of standing outside doorways. I even got a bad back, because [writer] Jed Mercurio wanted me to stand perfectly straight all the time.”
The six-part thriller opened with a huge audience of 6.7 million, making it the most-watched new drama launch of 2018 so far.
Bodyguard continues this Sunday on BBC1 at 9pm.
